DIY Coffee Body Scrub

Coffee… that magical dark potion, with its warm and comforting aroma is the center of life to most. For many of us self-proclaimed coffee addicts, it is impossible to begin the day without it. From the beginning of time it has been transforming any old grumpy gills into a fabulous morning person.  Why, without coffee, how can we think straight, or face the adversities of morning traffic, and deal with less than desirable circumstances at work? Coffee to me is a hug in a cup, and quite frankly, there is no sunshine in my day without it.

Coffee lovers like me can rejoice, as these delicious little beans have proven skin care benefits that are easily obtained through my delightful scrub.

What is contains:

Coffee: coffee plays a crucial role in regulating cell re-growth, leading to retained hydration (increased collagen) and increased skin elasticity, which is ideal for diminishing the appearance of cellulite and dehydrated skin. It is also a rich source of antioxidants which protects the skin and boosts its natural defense.

Sugar: sugar is a natural humectant, and as such, it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. Products with sugar or sugar derivatives therefore hydrate your skin and keep moisture within.  Sugar is also a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the "glue" that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin

Ghee: Ghee is the pure fat left over when the moisture is completely removed from butter and it is called clarified butter all over the world. Ghee is regarded very highly in India and is used in recipes, rituals, prayers, home remedies and for external application. Ghee made from grass fed, full fat, organic milk is full of nutrients like vitamins A, D and E.

Ingredients:

1 Cup Ground Coffee
½ Cup Organic Sugar
1 Cup Ghee
1 Tablespoon Cinnamon

Preparation:

  • In a deep bowl mix all ingredients well until they are completely combined.
  • Place mixture into an air-tight jar and store for up to two weeks. Once the scrub is free from outside contaminants it can last for longer periods.

Optional:

If you cannot find pure unrefined Ghee or you want to keep this recipe purely vegan, feel free to substitute any oil of your choice such as coconut or olive oil.

Apply this scrub to wet or dry skin to buff off dead skin and build up dirt and grime.. but be sure to resit the temptation to taste!

So...the next time you are enjoying your morning cup o'joe, please remember that the contents of your mug can be more than just delicious, its a miracle for your skin!!!!
